SYNOPSIS:
Adventures on Earth (and Far, Far Away)
The Film Music of John Williams
Presented by the New Festival Orchestra & NTU String Orchestra conducted by Adrian Tan, featuring Gerard Chia, solo violin & Fabian Lim, solo saxophone on the 5th October 2006 (8pm) & 6th October 2006 (5pm) at the Victoria Concert Hall Tickets on sale through GATECRASH.
The New Festival Orchestra (NFO) made its debut accompanying renowned American pianist Tedd Joselson in his 30th Anniversary concert performing Rachmaninoff's 2nd & 3rd Piano Concertos under the direction of Adrian Tan. The orchestra comprises of amateur and professional musicians brought together by a common love of music - and a desire to bring a greater variety of orchestral music to Singapore beyond the traditional classical repertoire.
Adventures on Earth is the first of many concerts featuring movie soundtracks, Broadway and West End musical revues, concert operas and popular songs that bring a breath of fresh air into the concert hall. By providing concerts the entire family, from the young to the young-at-heart, will enjoy, Adventures on Earth aims to change the perception that symphony orchestras are just a legacy of the past.
Joining forces with the NFO in this special event are the musicians from the NTU String Orchestra led by conductor Xu Zhonghao.
The concert will feature solo violinist Gerard Chia, a prize winner of the 1993 National Music Competition (Violin, open category) and graduate of the Eastman School of Music, in a performance of the music from the Oscar winning film Schindler's List.
Plus, jazz saxophonist Fabian Lim performs the solo in the soundtrack from the blockbuster Catch me if you can starring Tom Hanks and Leonardo di Caprio. The orchestra will also perform a concert suite from George Lucas' Star Wars Trilogy, the classic movie score that is destined for a place in music history.
All this, plus familiar tunes from unforgettable films like Indiana Jones, Superman, E.T. and Harry Potter - Adventures on Earth promises to be a concert not to be missed!
